Integrated writing prompts
Under consideration

Writers have requested integrating writing prompts directly into Novlr. Some have suggested a writing prompt generator, which gives prompts at will, while other suggestions have been for a daily/weekly prompt appearing somewhere on the dashboard.

There are three options for implementation here that might be effective:

  1. A widget/card that updates weekly with a new prompt
  2. A generator that updates with a new prompt on click
  3. A generator in the Writing Studio that lets you get a prompt without leaving your writing space

I feel like we need to have a fusion of 1 and 3 with Pamela’s idea to add community prompts as well.

The whole notion of a weekly writing prompt can also be morphed into a weekly short story contest kind of deal. Where we post our stories to the Novlr Discord and open discussions about them.

This idea of a daily writing prompt is being explored by snipfic as well which gives users a daily prompt but you have to write a nano story in under 100 words. I have been using it to share snippets of my novel but also as a means of seeing things differently. I also use it to kinda archive new ideas and ways I can take my story.

Never know this might spark someone’s idea for a new novel all together.

Number 3 does sound like fun. The only use I've ever found for AI is "make a suggestion for what could happen next" and it doesn't seem to matter that the suggestions are always bad - they get me unstuck anyway.
The prompt generator wouldn't need to be AI-based (probably better if it's not). It could just offer suggestions like:
"A man comes into the room with a gun in his hand, and says..."
"The main character drops something. When they bend down to pick it up, they notice..."
"The main character's phone rings. Unknown number..."
If there were, say, 100 of these, writers could keep clicking until something inspired them.

Jack I really like this implementation! There's also the possibility of opening up prompts to the wider community, so if there's something that has really helped you come unstuck, people could share it to help other writers!
