It would be awesome to have a format similar to https://comicwriter.io/ implemented in a template. It used to write comics with clear formating how the artist should intrepret the page. The name of this format is called Fred Van Lente's formatting.

I really wish that this amazing website could be completely free with no extra features that you have to pay for. As an unemployed new writer I simply cannot afford the features that would be extremely helpful to me
In the planning section, allow users to change the colour of the notecards - this would be useful to visualize where character POV's change
I write a lot of fiction/fantasy/poetry, as well as play around with neopronouns (eg: xe/xyr), and while I can click 'ignore' on the spelling or grammar check, it inevitably comes back when I change chapters or open the project again a different day. It would be amazing if I could, for a project, 'accept' a word or phrasing and have it not be flagged again in that project.
I'm working on one now, and the main character is currently using xe/xyr pronouns, and it's a bit difficult for me to sift through all the red marks when I'm trying to find an actual mistake.
I would love to be able to add tables.
Add an optional celebration animation on reaching your daily word target (similar to closing rings on an Apple Watch but maybe exploding letters or something more apt). The dopamine hit will make people want to achieve it.
Let writers choose dark, light, or system adaptive modes for website creation. This will show the site to visitors based on the writer's selected preference.
It would be great if I could 'expand' the planning section so it showed all the synopses as a single document, so I could read the entire outline of the story. Also the ability to export the expanded view.
The chapter by chapter planning cards could provide a useful editable synopsis if they could be exported in the same way as the notes.
Chapter numbering is built into the planning tool, but not the side bar. To have your chapter # present in the side bar view, you must include it in your chapter title. This makes things messy if you end up editing or re-ordering things.
There should be a feature where a subject/genre/prompt is chosen and people write a short story about it and submit it. After some time, a first-, second-, and third-place winner will be selected, or just one winner. There doesn't necessarily have to be money involved.
It would be nice to be able to turn chapters (off) in the word count while we draft. I'm considering adding a small chapter in between two larger chapters, but I haven't decided yet. To be able to mark a chapter, and turn it off in the word count while I work, think, and make that decision, would make my understanding of the word count pacing I have clearer so I can make the best decision about this part later.
It doesn't work and would be a lifesaver for me to be able to look for synonyms while writing, thank you.
It would be nice if users were able to comment under Reading Room articles and share their opinions on the subject of the article.
This then would mean we could keep nested notes under chapters for quick access.
To create more tabs and name it however it is fitting - for example "Work in Progress" , "Ideas" , "to work on later" etc...
I might be missing it but other writing resources like scrivener have editing resources (like strikethrough font option) and tracking words cut, and marking the status of each chapter (rough, editing, in progress, finished, etc kind of options for each chapter)
The analytics section already tracks the amount of time spent on each project, but it only shows the data to the writer in percentage form. If the app revealed the number of hours (per project or per week) that would help writers estimate how long it will take them to complete their project, or future projects. For professional writers, it would also be useful at tax time, if you need to say how long you've spent in your home office!
At the moment, the analytics page shows "words written" and "words deleted", but to work out how much longer (or shorter) the manuscript has gotten, the writer has to subtract the former from the latter manually. Gross words are great for cheering the writer on, but net words are important for working writers who need to know if they're on track to meet their deadlines.
Gamifying writing has always been very helpful for me. I love meeting the simple 250 daily goal I have and the 10k/month makes me push past that daily goal to beat it. Getting little cheers, badges, event stickers for meeting goals, participating, etc. etc. would be super fun; the dopamine is a great motivator!
My work gives out stickers for events attended that many people display on their water bottles. There's a lot of pride and community building that happens through this, as well as bragging rights because 'You were there? so was I! Remember when?"
Not being an American, it would be nice if the proof reading had an option to switch to British English
This would include importing comments made on a Word or Google Docs document which would appear as comments in Novlr, and also exporting comments made in Novlr to appear in exported documents.
Novlr could scan the manuscript and find repeated words or word combinations for review while weeding out uses of articles, conjunctions, 'be' verbs, etc. This would be helpful to avoid 58 accidental repetitions of phrases such as 'inner goddess.'
I often have specialist terminology and names in a book which I want to make sure are correct and consistent. Novlr's ability to add these words to a dictionary is almost perfect. Except that the words I define for one book (or series) should be spelling errors or typos in a different book.
I would love to have the ability to have different custom dictionaries for different projects.
I have been searching forever for a writing tool which offers this feature, and so far not found any!
